CentraLife — national life insurance and tax-mitigation agency, Dearborn, Michigan

Life Insurance FAQ

Answers to the questions clients ask most about IUL, coverage, taxes, and working with CentraLife — before the call.

What makes CentraLife different from other agencies?

Two things. First, we specialize in indexed universal life — most agencies sell it as a side product. We design it as the centerpiece of a tax-advantaged retirement strategy. Second, our advisors stay. Industry-wide, 93% of new life insurance agents wash out in their first year because nobody trains them properly. CentraLife retains over 90% of contracted advisors past year one. That depth shows up in the policies we design for you.

How is an IUL different from a 401(k) or IRA?

A 401(k) gives you a tax deduction today and taxes you in retirement at unknown future rates. An IUL is funded with after-tax dollars but distributes tax-free for life via policy loans, has a 0% floor against market losses, and includes a death benefit and living benefits at no extra cost. For high-income earners and business owners, it solves a problem 401(k)s cannot: predictable, tax-free retirement income.

I have an existing policy. Can you really save me money?

Often, yes. We are appointed with the nation’s top carriers, so we can shop the same coverage across the market. If your current policy is over a year old and your health has stayed the same or improved, there is a strong chance we can lower your premium, increase your coverage at the same premium, or restructure into a contract with better cash-value performance.

What does CentraLife mean by "Cash Value Strategies"?

Most life insurance is sold for the death benefit. We design contracts where the living benefits — accessible cash value — are the primary feature. Properly structured, your policy becomes a personal banking system: you can borrow against it for real-estate down payments, business capital, or college funding without disrupting the compounding inside.

How much coverage do I actually need?

A common rule of thumb is 10–12× your income, but that misses the point. Real number = income replacement years + outstanding debts + future obligations (college, mortgage payoff) + final expenses, minus liquid assets and existing coverage. We walk through it with you on the assessment call — most clients find they were either dramatically underinsured or paying for the wrong type of coverage.

Are you licensed in my state?

CentraLife is licensed in 49 states — every state except New York — and our advisor network covers all of them. Wherever you live outside New York, we can place coverage.

How does pricing work?

You pay nothing for our planning, design, or assessment work. Insurance carriers compensate us when a policy is placed — the same commission they would pay any agent. There is no fee for talking to us, and there is no obligation to buy.

How long does the process take?

For term and final expense, many clients are approved same day. For fully underwritten IUL or whole life, the process typically takes 3–6 weeks depending on whether labs are required. We hold your hand through every step.
